Duke Lemur Center launches new programs, plans Lemurpalooza
Lemurpalooza is this Saturday. And the Durham center also has hatched some new programs for kids and families, including offerings for homeschoolers and scout groups.

The Duke Lemur Center has launched some new programs at its Durham facility for kids and families. It's also gearing up for a big annual event this weekend.
The new programs include learning labs for groups that can be paired with a tour; a track out science camp; an academy that's designed for homeschoolers; and a program for Girl Scouts, Y Guides and other groups. The center's website lists the programs, along with all of the details. These look like fun!
And from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, the center will host its annual Lemurpalooza. Registration is required for this event. Tickets are $50 per car. The evening includes opportunities to meet these unique primates, take in some live music and take part in various lemur-related activities for all ages.
Visitors also will be able to learn more about the center's adopt-a-lemur program, which helps the center care for the animals and support conservation work around the world.
The event offers families a chance to explore the center at their own pace. Usually visitors must take a guided tour when they go. The Duke Lemur Center is the world’s largest sanctuary for the animals outside of their native Madagascar.
