Police directed traffic at the intersections of Garrett Road and N.C. Highway 54, Fayetteville Road and Woodcroft, Farrington Road and Old Chapel Hill Road and Fayetteville Road and Crooked Creek.
The outage occurred during the peak usage time on one of the hottest days of the year, knocking out air conditioning and fans for almost 10,000 customers, a Duke Energy spokesman said.
At 9 p.m., only 142 outages remained.
