— A campus employee who crashed his moped at Duke University Saturday night has died, a university spokesman said.

Saber Benson, 26, of Chapel Hill, was trying to pass through the iron gate on Union Drive as it was closing at 11:45 p.m., a campus police spokesman said.

Benson is an employee at The Loop Pizza Grill in Duke's West Union building.

Police found alcohol at the crash scene and are trying to determine if it was involved in the crash.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Duke police at 919-684-2444.

Regardless of the choices someone chooses to make, when posting these "comments" people should be sensitive to Saber's family and friends. You people are making judgments about a stranger based on a three paragraph article. Don't you have something productive to do with your lives, other than blogging on tragedies? Saber had a good heart and should be remembered for such qualities.

Drinking and driving never mix and he paid dearly for it as so many before him have. Shame! How many times before this happen was he caught DUI

if only there were warnings on those automatic gates about serious injury that could occur while it is closing... oh wait.

I'm with HIGHVOLT1. Any 26 yr old ridding a moped is probably familiar with alcohol.

Sorry to hear that sjb2k1. We deal with the Loop on a regular basis, and some of the folks from our neighbor office knew him.

It was a moped. Saber was my friend...the past couple days have been pretty horrible.

Moped or motorcycle? Almost everything with two wheels and a piston will run over 30 MPH. A lot of them will run over 55 MPH.

This gate is right outside our building. It closes at like an inch a minute, so I'm not sure what happened. My guess is high speed trying to get through it before it closed, but a scooter could go around the thing I think.
