GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Wayne County authorities arrested a Dudley man Wednesday after a cross was burned in another man's yard.

Dixon R. Steward, 38, of 125 Timothy St., was charged with burning of a cross on another's property, which is a felony.

The FBI has been asked to investigate the case for possible civil rights violations.

Steward was initially arrested Tuesday on a charge that he violated a court order against having any contact with the victim of the cross burning, authorities said.
