CLAYTON, N.C. — The parching lack of rain has had one benefit – road-building conditions are great.

Tuesday, engineers shaping the U.S. Highway 70 Clayton Bypass project said this summer has let them get ahead of schedule.

The original completion date was late 2009. Now, crews say they can finish the job by late 2008.
