Roanoke Rapids, N.C. — Deputies and police officers executing a search warrant at a Roanoke Rapids barbershop found they had to do a little unexpected digging to find drugs they were after.
Halifax County sheriff's deputies and Roanoke Rapids police officers executed a search warrant at Raymond's Barber Shop, 1318 Roanoke Ave., owned by Jose Roman Torres, 60, of Roanoke Rapids.
Officers said they discovered cocaine in Torres' underwear and a firearm hidden in the seat of a barber chair.
Investigators obtained a warrant to search Torres' house. There, officers said, they seized several grams of crack cocaine, marijuana and some drug paraphernalia, including digital scales and homemade pipes.
Torres was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, maintaining a business for controlled substances and maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances.
He was being held in the Halifax County Jail under a $25,000 secured bond.
