RALEIGH, N.C. — Police have charged a man who drove away after allegedly hitting a woman on a motor scooter in Raleigh Monday afternoon.

Ana Kessel, 20, was trying to turn left onto Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard from northbound Rock Quarry Road around 2:45 p.m. when, investigators say, a 1992 Chevrolet sedan headed south collided with her in the intersection.

Kessel was taken to WakeMed, where she was being treated for serious injuries Monday night, police said.

Michael Deontea Jones, 23, of 628 Ralph Drive, Raleigh, was found a short time later and was jailed under a $50,500 bond on charges of felony hit and run and driving without a valid license.

A wreck report regarding the collision was not yet complete Monday night, and further details weren't available.
