Raleigh man charged in hit-and-run: 'I was threatened by a gun'

Jared James Lemm, 32, of 4014 Evans Drive, surrendered to police Tuesday afternoon in connection to the incident. Bruce Thompson, 44, was rear-ended on Poole Road near the interchange with Interstate 440 in south Raleigh just after 8 a.m. Tuesday. When he got out to check the damage to his pickup truck, witnesses said, the driver behind him honked the horn, revved his engine, rolled over Thompson and then left the scene.

Lemm was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and felony hit-and-run.

"I came forward to contest my side of the story," Lemm said in court Wednesday. "I was threatened by a gun."

Prosecutors said Thompson suffered serious injuries.

"The victim's alleged injuries include multiple fractures to the left side of his face, a broken left shoulder and several broken ribs," Wake County Assistant District Attorney Doug Faucette said.

​Police said that the incident stemmed from pre-existing personal circumstances between Thompson and Lemm.

Lemm was being held at the Wake County Detention Center under $250,000 bond.
