Police: Previous grudge fueled Poole Road hit-and-run
Raleigh police said early Tuesday the hit-and-run that left a man hospitalized in serious condition stemmed from a beef between the two drivers.
Posted — Updated"A guy got out of his car. A car was behind him, and the guy just took off and ran over him," a witness told emergency dispatchers in a call to 911.
"The truck behind him blew the horn and raced up on the gas and bumped into him and then hit the gas and went completely over him," the witness said.
That caller told dispatchers that Thompson was bleeding from his mouth, nose and the side of the head after being hit.
RaeAnn Waggoner, Thompson's neighbor, said she learned of the accident while listening to the radio. Waggoner said she had seen Thompson over the weekend, at a neighborhood gathering.
"We had a Christmas open house for our neighborhood, and Bruce joined us and brought me a beautiful tray of cookies," she said.
Police said that the incident stemmed from pre-existing personal circumstances between Thompson and Lemm.
"I can't imagine somebody targeting him and doing this heinous thing," said Waggoner.
Lemm was being held at the Wake County Detention Center under $250,000 bond.
