DURHAM, N.C. — Durham County sheriff's deputies found almost 100 grams of cocaine in a stolen car Thursday afternoon.

Lt. Stan Harris said deputies stopped the car, a Toyota, on Fayetteville Road for erratic driving. As the deputy looked up the license plate, the driver sped away, only to hit a telephone pole.

When the car stopped, the driver fled on foot, Harris said.

Deputies took the passenger, Laryan Ishman Scarlett, into custody, charging him with drug trafficking and vehicle theft.

The driver of the car was still at large Friday afternoon, Harris said.
