— Durham County sheriff's deputies found almost 100 grams of cocaine in a stolen car Thursday afternoon.

Lt. Stan Harris said deputies stopped the car, a Toyota, on Fayetteville Road for erratic driving. As the deputy looked up the license plate, the driver sped away, only to hit a telephone pole.

When the car stopped, the driver fled on foot, Harris said.

Deputies took the passenger, Laryan Ishman Scarlett, into custody, charging him with drug trafficking and vehicle theft.

The driver of the car was still at large Friday afternoon, Harris said.

The suspects not "only" hit a light pole- they also hit me!!! I'm the one who knocked them in the light pole! They forgot to mention that on here! Who knows if they hit anyone else before me.

Think about it. Durham has people moving into the city almost daily. But its only a VERY small percentage of them that ever get in trouble with the law. Since the police are arresting troubled people daily, you would think the "troubled element" would eventually be weeded out. But they aren't. Tons of crimes keep happening. How is this possible if most of them are incarcerated. The answer is they AREN'T incarcerated. They are held for short periods and let back out on the street. The problem is with the court/prison system, not with the cops. If these people were imprisoned for long periods of time, as they should, they WOULD be weeded out over a short time period.
