Driver charged with DWI in connection to I-95 wreck

Posted January 31, 2016

— A Florida man was charged with driving while impaired in connection with a crash that shut down northbound lanes of Interstate 95 near Rocky Mount on Sunday.

According to investigators, Kevin Eugene Ellis, 31, of Middleburg, Florida, was driving north on I-95 at about 10:15 a.m. when his tractor trailer full of cabbage veered into the grass median. Ellis overcorrected, which caused his truck to jackknife and overturn, authorities said.

Ellis and a passenger, Jade Lidely Ellis, 32, were taken to Wilson Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Ellis was charged with driving while impaired, commercial motor vehicle driving while impaired, careless and reckless driving and not wearing a seatbelt.

Northbound lanes of I-95 reopened Sunday afternoon.
