Driver Charged With DWI After Hitting Man on I-40

Durham, N.C. — Durham police laid charges of driving while impaired against one of two drivers who hit and killed a man who stepped out of his disabled vehicle on Interstate 40 this weekend.
Rashard Addison, 28, of Durham, Rashard Addison, 28, lost control of his 2002 Ford Explorer while driving west on I-40 near Miami Boulevard around 12:20 a.m. Sunday. The Explorer overturned twice before stopping upright on the highway.
Catherine Joyce, 49, of Burlington, struck Addison with her 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe when he stepped out of his damaged Explorer. He was hit again by a 1996 Mercury Sable driven by Tommy Bridges, 51, of Sikeston, Missouri, and pronounced dead at the scene.
Joyce was charged with DWI and released under a $25,000 bond.
No other charges have been filed, but police said the investigation continues.
