Driver charged in wreck that killed soldier

Police on Wednesday charged a Hope Mills teenager in a wreck last month in Fayetteville that killed a Fort Bragg soldier.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Police on Wednesday charged a Hope Mills teenager in a wreck last month in Fayetteville that killed a Fort Bragg soldier.

Andrew Patrick Green, 17, of 4614 Cedar Pass Drive, was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and an unsafe movement violation.

James Joseph Nickel, 19, was eastbound on Raeford Road on June 28 when a westbound Saturn turned left in front of him onto Sandalwood Drive, police said.

Nickel slammed into the car and died at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
