Anastasiya Katherine Bergeron

— A Harnett County teen was charged Friday in a wreck last month on Interstate 40 in Raleigh that killed a Cary man and backed up traffic for hours.

Anastasiya Katherine Bergeron, 18, of 100 Tweety Lane in Bunnlevel, was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle.

Police said Bergeron was lost control of her 2001 Toyota sedan on eastbound I-40 near Wade Avenue on May 29 and crashed into some nearby woods.

Chase Morgan Rodgers, 20, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, was pronounced dead at the scene. The former Cary High School student had graduated from Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va.

Bergeron and 18-year-old Christian Michael Miller, who was in the back seat, were taken to WakeMed for treatment.

Police initially charged Bergeron with provisional driving while impaired.

Go back and read some of the post from the June 20th story on the I-40 accident. I reckon those who called for her to be in prison the rest of her life got their wish. It sounds like she was "in a prison" of guilt. Truly sad for all of those involved.

Wonder if the parents of the kid who was killed had any say in how she was charged. IF they were all impaired ( drinking, drugs) and none had seat belt on , they could have asked for the lesser charge as each person had a choice to drink , wear seat belt and poor choices were made. So sorry for the loss of a young life, any life lost is sad and painful

It sounds like they've found that she wasn't impaired and just charged her with the lastest charge.

However, the accident hasn't changed the life of the other guy in the car. I wonder if his parents and parents of his frends have checked out his FB page. If I read posts like that by my son, he'd lose all internet access, no phone, nothing. But, hey, that's just me being silly I suppose.

Everyone has a valid point but in the end, my prayers are with the parents and family of the young man and she will have to live with this for the rest of her life, in jail or not!

Yes, people will continue to drive impaired, even if it's cough medicine, because when you are impaired you don't think correctly. Does that mean you should get off by a lesser charge? NO! It just means we all have done it, sometime or another, and you know what I mean. You think you can drive regardless!!

The judicial system will do it's thing and sentence will be passed. Just remember, if you see someone trying to get in a car while impaired, either stop them or call the police! It could save a life of someone close to you!!!

My dad was killed by a drunk and one day he will answer to me for it as there is no justice here in NC.

    The law needs to change!!!

Those who imbibe, KNOWING they will be driving afterward, make a premeditated choice to Drive While Impaired, even before they get behind the wheel to actually do so, so if they hurt someone while doing it, they should face a charge of Attempted Murder, and if they kill someone while doing it, it should be Murder One, because of the premeditation involved in it.

The kid gloves need to be removed, and drunks should be made to FULLY pay dearly for the hurt and pain they cause others in their selfish inane choices.

    You know that how???

"Police said Bergeron was lost control of her 2001 Toyota sedan on eastbound I-40 near Wade Avenue on May 29 and crashed into some nearby woods."
Aside from the point, but what kind of grammar is that, i.e. "...was lost control..."???
Also, what's "provisional driving while impaired", and has that charge been dropped or upgraded to a REAL "DWI"???
Prayers for the loved ones of Rodgers, regardless the circumstances.

It's a shame this only a misdemeanor - it should be felony homicide and she should be spending the rest of her life in prison thinking about how much pain and anguish she has caused.
