FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Fayetteville man has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in a September crash that killed a Fort Bragg soldier, according to court records.

Aaron Christopher Barkers, 40, of 2560 Graham Road, also is charged with reckless driving in the Sept. 21 wreck on Owen Drive in Fayetteville.

Police said Barkers was driving at a high rate of speed when his Dodge Magnum collided with a Ford Taurus driven by Staff Sgt. Wadiyah Northern at the Gillespie Street intersection.

Northern, 32, of Norfolk, Va., died at the scene, and a 10-year-old boy in her car was critically injured.

Barkers suffered extensive injuries himself and was hospitalized for a while after the crash.

Northern was the unit supply noncommissioned officer in charge and headquarters platoon sergeant for the 403rd Inland Cargo Transportation Company, 330th Transportation Battalion, 82nd Sustainment Brigade.

Police haven't identified the child who was with her or said whether they were related.
