— Wake County deputies arrested a 21-year-old driver and were searching for the man’s passenger after a short chase and crash on Jenks Road early Tuesday.

Deputies tried to stop Mason Liggett, of 3208 U.S. Highway 64, for speeding and reckless driving, according to sheriff’s office spokeswoman Phyllis Stephens. Liggett drove off and deputies began a short pursuit, she said.

Liggett eventually crashed into the deputy's car, which sustained minor damage, and he and his passenger jumped out and ran, according to troopers.

Deputies caught Liggett, but were still looking for the passenger, whose name was not released.

Liggett was charged with DWI, resisting, delaying and obstructing, failing to stop and having no operator's license, among other charges, according to Stephens.

But is running from the police probable cause? I don't buy into the "if you don't have anything to hide, you'll do what they say" routine. I'm not trying to stir anything up here, I'm really just wondering.

You can listen to Police audio from the chase @ http://WakeCountyLiveScanner.com under the Audio Archives Tab. That site also streams Police, Fire & EMS audio

"I have a question, on what basis would they arrest the passenger? As a passenger, they had no control of the vehicle. I'm wondering what the just cause would be....

If this guy voted for change, he deserves the death penalty - or life imprisonment at best. Intoxication and ignorance are no excuse for endangering the freedom of tens of millions of Americans.

I drove by a little after midnight, saw the lights , know the area, across from gas station..thought it was a wreck,Glad no one was hurt. The tobacco trail is just behind the area, other homes and lots of places to hid out.
Hope the get the second one!

This 21yo is accused of domestic terrorism. Speeding and reckless driving are known to kill innocent people daily and brings terror to the residents of NC. Congrats to the Sheriff for getting this horrible would-be killer off our roads. Is there a mandatory minimum sentence for traffic terrorism or is this terrorist out of jail already?
