Durham, N.C. — A Durham man apparently fell asleep and crossed the center line of U.S. Highway 70, causing a fatal head-on collision Thursday afternoon, authorities said.
Glenn Watkins, 43, was headed home from work when his 1994 Geo Tracker crossed into the oncoming lanes of U.S. 70 near South Miami Boulevard in Durham, said Sgt. M.K. Young of the State Highway Patrol.
The Tracker collided with a Honda Acura driven by Mike Delionbach, 52, of Rougemont, Young said. Watkins was killed on impact, and Delionbach was taken to Duke University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Young said alcohol and speed weren't factors in the wreck.
