Durham, N.C. — The Durham Performing Arts Center is ranked among the top 10 venues in the world according to ticket sales, Pollstar magazine reported Thursday.
The DPAC ranked sixth in the world and third in the country.
In its first five seasons, the more than 2,700 seat theater sold 1.65 million seats. The stats show that each seat has been sold on average more than 600 times.
The DPAC has a lot of great shows coming up in their Suntrust Broadway Season, including The Book of Mormon, Once, Ghost, Evita and The Wizard of Oz.
The news comes on the heels of news that the city of Durham has earned $1.3 million in the 2013 fiscal year, according to unaudited financial statements.
According to preliminary information, Durham Performing Arts LLC generated a net income of just over $3.3 million, of which, 40 percent or $1.3 million will be distributed to the city, as per an operating agreement. The income will go into the City’s DPAC Fund and be used for debt service, maintenance, building improvements and other possible revenue shortfalls, including naming rights and hotel/motel occupancy tax, according to the city.
