DPAC named among America's top five theaters

In its ninth season, the theater held 223 events, with 93 sellouts and a total attendance of 458,326 guests.

DURHAM, N.C.Durham Performing Arts Center is once again ranked as one of the best theaters in the country for its size, placing among the top five venues in attendance and sales.

In its ninth season, the theater held 223 events, with 93 sellouts and a total attendance of 458,326 guests. The theater's average attendance per event was higher than last year.

Pollstar, an organization that covers the worldwide concert industry, ranked DPAC fifth in theater venue ticket sales, behind New York's Radio City Music Hall, The Axis at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, The Fox Theatre in Atlanta and The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, respectively.

This year's DPAC season included multiple Tony Award-winning shows. The season's top five shows for attendance were Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The King and I, Finding Neverland, Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Something Rotten! and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.

The top attended concerts of the year at DPAC were Joe Bonamassa, Bob Dylan, Tony Bennett, Earth, Wind & Fire and Il Divo.

DPAC also hosted a variety of comedy shows, with the most-attended being Steve Martin, Martin Short and Steep Canyon Rangers. Rounding out the top five most attended comedy shows were Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, Trevor Noah and Jay Leno.

Paw Patrol, Love Jones: The Music, Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Julianne and Derek Hough: Move Beyond Live on Tour and Dan TDM were the top five attended special events at the venue.

The upcoming DPAC season will include The Little Mermaid, Waitress and Get on Your Feet. The following season will include Broadway smash Hamilton.
