DPAC closes its season with record sellouts

DURHAM, N.C. — The Durham Performing Arts Center has been a staple of the city for 10 years, drawing in international stars for many years.

The facility holds over 2,000 people, enticing guests with its modern style and diverse performances.

This year, for DPAC's 2017-2018 season, it welcomed almost 490,000 guests.

The center hosted over 200 events, ranging from concerts to comedy events to Broadway performances. Pollstar, the weekly trade magazine for the concert industry, ranks DPAC third in theaters tracked from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018 alongside names like Radio City Music Hall in N.Y. and Fox Theatre in Atlanta, G.A.

From top-selling indie folk ban Bon Iver to soulful songstress, eight-time Grammy winner Anita Baker, DPAC has hosted 15 successful concerts this past season.

This season featured the high-profile Broadway concerts like Andrew Lloyd Weber's "The Phantom of the Opera," which was the most attended Broadway show this season. "Les Misérables" came in second, followed by the new Broadway hit "Waitress the Musical," featuring lyrics by artist Sara Bareilles.
