Downtown Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo seeks to move first event

RALEIGH, N.C. — The Downtown Raleigh Food Truck Rodeo wants to move its first event one week after some local restaurants took issue with the large event's original Mother's Day date.

In a posting on the group's Facebook page, organizers said they have petitioned the City Council to move the event from May 11 to May 4.

"Please make sure we are showing our support for all the downtown business and residents. These large events do have an impact to them and how to balance that is an important conversation to have," organizers wrote.

Last year, the rodeo held its first event on Mother's Day. Being its first event, it drew some criticism over lack of organization and parking issues.

The rodeos, also planned on June 8, Aug. 10 and Oct. 12, are expected to draw thousands to downtown to dine on more than 50 food trucks. To help fund startup costs for the rodeos, organizers are running a Kickstarter. They are $5,000 away from their goal with just over a week left.
