RALEIGH, N.C. — The state Department of Transportation will begin rehabilitating a 6.8-mile section of Interstate 40 in Wake County next week, officials said Thursday.

The milling and resurfacing work will extend from mile marker 283, east of Interstate 540, to Wade Avenue. Work will begin Monday and is scheduled to be completed by May 2010.

The $5.9 million contract was awarded to Rea Contracting LLC of Raleigh. Work will be completed at night from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m., with at least one lane of traffic open at all times, officials said.
