— The state Department of Transportation will begin rehabilitating a 6.8-mile section of Interstate 40 in Wake County next week, officials said Thursday.

The milling and resurfacing work will extend from mile marker 283, east of Interstate 540, to Wade Avenue. Work will begin Monday and is scheduled to be completed by May 2010.

The $5.9 million contract was awarded to Rea Contracting LLC of Raleigh. Work will be completed at night from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m., with at least one lane of traffic open at all times, officials said.

hey DOT, while you're at it, fill in the median with concrete and call it complete. repaving. give me a break. who cares about potholes when you're only moving 5mph. what's it gonna take to make DOT realize 800,000 cars squeeze in to 2 lanes called I-40 at Wade avenue EVERY SINGLE DAY?!?!?

Todmax -- try reading for content. The article clearly states that the work will be done between 9pm and 6am. That isn't rush hour.

My only question is why repaving a single stretch of road that's 6 miles long will take an entire year.

Todmax, where I'm from rush hour is not considered from 9PM to 6AM (the times they will be closing lanes).

    todmax,

Just be thankful you have a drive home from a JOB. Some of us don't have a job to drive home from.

oh sheesh. here we go again!!!!

I'd rather they spend their money expanding the section between Wade and US-1. THEN repave the old section. Traffic through there is bad enough during rush hour without them closing lanes. Looks like I need to stock up on a few more audio books because my drive home is about to get longer.

I didn't notice anything wrong with that stretch of 40, which I have driven a lot on the way to Canes games recently (which I will miss sorely!). Is it that bad there?
