DOT promises signal for Rolesville Bypass intersection

The long-awaited Rolesville Bypass is expected to open next week, but Rolesville Mayor Frank Eagles is not happy with the result.

ROLESVILLE, N.C. — The state Department of Transportation will follow through on a promise to add a traffic signal along the Rolesville Bypass, a spokesman said Friday.

The intersection, at East Young Street, is equipped with traffic signals facing three directions, but Rolesville Mayor Frank Eagles wants the intersection to be fully signalized.

On Thursday, Eagles showed WRAL News a 2014 letter from a DOT engineer that said the intersection "WILL be signalized."

But the bypass, scheduled to open next week, still has just a stop sign on one corner.

DOT spokesman Steve Abbott said, "When Mayor Eagles first notified the department of his 401 bypass concern on July 6, the department immediately took action to resolve it, and as a result will install an additional traffic signal where the stop sign currently exists on this synchronized street project."
