DOT allots $15.4M for Cumberland County projects

The North Carolina Board of Transportation on Monday awarded $15.4 million for road improvement projects in Cumberland County at its monthly meeting in Raleigh.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The North Carolina Board of Transportation on Monday awarded $15.4 million for road improvement projects in Cumberland County at its monthly meeting in Raleigh.

The projects include:

  • Replacing the bridge over Little Rockfish Creek on Lakewood Drive (State Road 1108) in Hope Mills. The $1.5 million project was awarded to Sanford Contractors Inc. of Sanford. Work is expected to begin as early as Sept. 29, with final completion scheduled for Dec. 31, 2009;
  • Replacing the Morganton Road bridge over the All-American Freeway from Sycamore Dairy Road to Glensford Road in Fayetteville. The $11.8 million project was awarded to Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Inc. of Atlanta, Ga. Work is expected to begin as early as Sept. 29, with final completion scheduled for Nov. 15, 2009;
  • Widening 1.6 miles of N.C. 87 from south of School Road (S.R. 2233) to north of Thrower Road (S.R. 2245) in Gray’s Creek. The $2.1 million contract was awarded to Barnhill Contracting Co. of Tarboro. Work is expected to begin as early as Sept. 29, with final completion scheduled for April 15, 2009.
