MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Domestic violence prompted a brief Amber Alert Monday morning for a 3-year-old Iredell County boy, police said.

Mooresville police charged William Delveare Washington, 35, with one count of attempted first-degree murder in a shooting that happened around 8:30 a.m. on Sharpe Street.

Local television stations reported that Washington allegedly kicked in a door at a home, shot a woman who was inside and then took off with her son.

That prompted the Amber Alert, which was issued and canceled just before noon.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested Washington and found the child, unharmed, with Washington.

Police did not elaborate on how Washington knows the boy's mother.

Her name has not been released. She was taken to Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, where her condition wasn't available Monday afternoon.
