Domestic disturbance spreads to social services office

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Clients of the Cumberland County Department of Social Services were forced out of the facility Monday afternoon while sheriff’s deputies searched for a wanted man.

Stephanie Malanu, 19, called 911 from inside a restroom at the facility at 1225 Ramsey Street to report that her boyfriend was threatening her. Malanu said Jordan Tywayne Mitchell, 19, followed her there and told her via cell phone that he had a gun.

When deputies arrived, they evacuated the building while they searched for Malanu and Mitchell.

Mitchell escaped from the building, but was arrested a few blocks away. He did not have a weapon in his possession, deputies said.

Mitchell, of 6826 Marlowe Drive, is charged with communicating threats. He was being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center Monday afternoon.
