Dog trapped on Interstate 17 in Phoenix during morning rush hour traffic

Posted September 12

— A small white dog was escorted off the freeway after it was stuck on the sound wall on Interstate 17 in Phoenix Tuesday morning.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, their deputies responded to a call of a dog on the lower concrete wall along the southbound lanes of I-17, just north of Glendale Avenue.

Southbound traffic was stopped for a short time in an effort to get the dog safely off the freeway.

The area was reopened after the troopers were able to herd the dog off at the Glendale Avenue off-ramp, according to ADOT.

According to DPS, state troopers lost sight of the dog once it left the freeway and went into a nearby neighborhood. DPS officials have updated animal control of the last known location.

It's unknown at this time how the dog got stuck against the freeway wall.
