Dog killed in home invasion

Posted June 30, 2008

— Three armed men forced their way into a home on the 5900 block of Baggett Lane in Hope Mills late Sunday, authorities said.

The homeowner, 25-year-old Melissa Ann Lester, told detectives she and four friends had cooked out earlier and were sitting in the living room at about 11:25 p.m. Sunday when the men entered the home wearing black ski masks and brandishing guns.

Lester’s dog gave chase and was shot and killed by the men, authorities said. No other injuries were reported.

The case remains under investigation.

Were these men White, Black, Hispanic, or Asian? I'm sure WRAL and the police do not want to hunt anyone's feelings by bringing race into this.

northernc, I agree, not enough information provided, 4 men break in, no damage no assult no robbery? Sounds as if they may have had a couple to many after the cook out. Not judging anyone, I have had a couple to many after a cook out too.

I don't believe their account of what happened. I think they were probably having too much fun, ...messing with a gun for whatever reason & the dog got shot in the mix of things. There is no mention of theft or damage of anything ... this story will change soon enoughh.

Were the 4 men police? Either way the dog should not have been killed.

4 men break into the house brandishing guns, the dog would be down pretty low on the list of things to worry about.

You know I have always been scared to death of this happening to my boxer. She barks a tough game but probably wouldn't hurt a fly. I'm sure it would be intimidating for someone and they'd hurt her.
