Raleigh, N.C. — A state Department of Correction employee faces charges for leaving loaded guns in a house where a 15-year-old accidentally shot himself, according to arrest warrants.
Battista Louise Lassiter, 29, of 6612 Lake Hill Drive, was arrested Nov. 29 on charges of felony child abuse inflicting serious injury, possession of a weapon of mass destruction and misdemeanor child abuse.
The warrants say that on Nov. 28, Lassiter left the teen and her 3-year-old daughter alone in her house for 11½ hours. The teen got access to a sawed-off shotgun and another loaded firearm, then accidentally shot himself in the foot.
