Do you ask for discounts? I saved $110!

When was the last time you got a discount because you asked for it?

I saved $110 last week at two different places just by asking!

The first discount was at Target. I found a lovely side table that was exactly what I had been looking for. The only table they had was the floor model. It had a couple small scratches on it that are not really visible where I planned to put the table. I asked the Target employee if they offer a scratch and dent discount. She called her supervisor and they offered me 30% off! And I had $27 in gift cards from Swagbucks making the table 60% off after gift card and $30 savings from the scratches.

The second discount came from a large furniture store in Raleigh. I ordered a piece of furniture over 3 weeks ago (on sale, of course) that had to be ordered from the manufacturer and delivered from their distribution center in Charlotte. The first time they delivered the item, it was broken and had to be sent back right. The second time they scheduled delivery, the item did not get on the truck and they were not able to deliver it. They did not call me until the delivery day 2 hours into the delivery window to tell me the item was not coming. The third time was the charm, thankfully, although they did not get to the house until 10 pm Saturday night when my window of delivery was 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm.

After so many delivery issues, I decided to call the company today and ask for a refund for the entire delivery charge of $80. Initially, they offered me a gift card in the amount of the delivery charge, but I told them I did not need any more furniture and that I preferred to have the $80 credited back to my credit card. They finally agreed.

So my total in savings was $30 for the Target table and $80 for the delivery refund. And it took more time to write this post than it did to save the $110!

    I will need to renew my New and Observer (Sunday only) subscription. Do you know of any deals available at this time? What would be a "good" price? Thank you so much. You have no idea how many people you help and in how many ways. We LOVE our Faye!!!

    Yep, Amazon is the best comes to a problem with something you've bought from them! I bought a case of pasta from them. About half the boxes had damage, and they gave me a refund for the whole case.

    I make it a point to call my bill companies at least twice a year and ask for loyalty discounts or a valued customer rate...
    Cell provider
    Internet & TV provider
    Insurance provider
    The list can go on and on
    I also am very nice and polite when I make these calls I express my gratitude and POLITELY remind them of my dedication to their company.
    Usually this is effective and ends up saving me about 30% on my bills. Example: Bill X- $198.87 before Bill X -$149.87 after Note: These savings are usually good for 12 months then you have to call and ask again.

    I ordered some NEW items from Amazon -they arrived Saturday with parts missing and the packaging had a sticker that said "USED" . I called Amazon -they immediately issued a full refund and shipped me the items I ordered for free ( and free shipping) !
    The NEW items arrived today and are perfect .

    I priced lawn mowers at WalMart and Home Depot. I then asked the WalMart manager to sell me a higher priced lawn mower for the price of a cheaper model. Letting them know I had cash in hand and could go and get the other one at Home Depot. They gave it to me for the cheaper price.

    Meredith88 - It 'never' hurts to ask...you may get a better deal than you were expecting... and the worst thing that can happen is ..they say no :)

    Really cute table Faye!!!!
    I always try to get the best possible deal on whatever I am shopping for....I was doing 'the look for less' way before it became 'the thing to do'....I love 'the hunt'....I always set a price 'in my head' that I am willing to pay for something and if the price doesn't come down to match that...I walk away! I love finding a really good 'treasure' and remaking it into 'my own style' too :-)

    I ordered two dresses from Old Navy on October 3rd..they still have not arrived despite three phone calls and new delivery dates promised. I asked for the delivery charge to be credited back to my account and the dresses were re-shipped for no charge. Let's hope they show up tomorrow!
