FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — DNA evidence has linked a man in prison in Texas to several violent crimes in Fayetteville, authorities said Friday.

William Razor III, 46, is serving a 13-year sentence in Texas for assaulting and robbing two women.

Cumberland County District Attorney Billy West said DNA tests have tied Razor to the 2007 death of 39-year-old April Kemp, who was fatally beaten at an Eastern Boulevard motel. Razor is also linked to the rapes and beatings of two Fayetteville women at Eastern Boulevard motels and to a 2005 attack on a woman behind the Red Carpet Inn Motel in Fayetteville.

Fayetteville police continue to gather evidence against Razor, West said, adding that he doesn't have to wait until Razor completes his Texas sentence to pursue charges in the various local cases.
