Diet Coke and Mentos

I dedicate this post to .Milky.

.Milky is one of our users here at  Bless him/her, he/she is a reliable commenter on my silly little blog here.

For the past few weeks, he/she has been commenting a lot about Diet Coke and Mentos.  In my coffee-tasting blog yesterday, .Milky wrote the following:

"Is it your love for Diet Coke that prevents you from posting any of the great Diet Coke and Mentos videos or can you not post them for liability reasons?"

I have to confront this scurrilous semi-accusation head on!

While I hate to see a perfectly good 2-liter bottle of Diet Coke go to waste, I readily admit to dropping Mentos in Diet Coke bottles on at least three (3) occasions.  The foamy geysers reached several feet into the air.  It was a marvelous site to behold.

Seriously though, to answer .Milky's very fair question, I just figured everyone had seen the videos already.  Diet Coke-and-Mentos is so 2006.  But I suppose some visitors here on have never seen the magical Diet Coke/Mentos videos, have no idea what we're talking about (maybe they think it's an inexpensive way to flavor Diet Coke?) and might be pleased to learn more.

We turn to the semi-dependable Wikipedia for a full explanation and link to YouTube videos.

I still don't think I'm going to put them on TV.  I think I'd come off even lamer than I already am.  But I will make this exception!   If you're a user, shoot your video of Diet Coke and Mentos eruptions, put it in our Share Video section, send me an e-mail, and I'll put it on TV!

So, enjoy.  And, .Milky, I owe you a pack of Mentos and a 20 oz. Diet Coke.

    NC_VET: Isn't Mythbusters a great show?! Now, that's television.

.Milky: You're right about the groin kick. I'm glad it has lasted long enough for modern media to add sound effects in post-production. Where would all of those home video shows be without groin impacts? About 30 minutes shorter, I'd say.

Everyone: We've got lots of science-types in the Triangle. Come on, folks. Let's come up with the next Diet Coke/Mentos-esque fad! Put all of that education to use in the desperate pursuit of fun.

The Myth was done on MythBusters last year on The Discovery
Channel and has been re-run many times - old, old. story

I think you're right, the Mentos and Diet Coke bit was the lava lamp of '06. I still think it has more potential than what we've seen so far and, as soon as I come up with something fresh, I'll send it in. I think with some TLC the Mentos and Diet Coke bit could become a timeless classic. Can you imagine if our forefathers gave up on the groin kick after a few stale laughs? It's unthinkable.

Keep up the good work and thanks for giving me my 15 seconds.

.Milky (I am a guy btw)
