The Diaper Bank of North Carolina seeks size 5 diapers
The Diaper Bank of North Carolina is now offering birthday party packages.

The Diaper Bank, which collects diapers for needy families, can host parties for up to 12 children. The package also includes party decorations, plates, cups and decor, along with a party organizer, who is available to guide the children through a volunteer project, serve treats and clean up

I absolutely love this combination of party and service project. What a fantastic idea. The suggested donation for the party is $100. It's open to all ages - if you can count to 12, you can volunteer at the Diaper Bank, which is based in Durham.

The Diaper Bank, which provides diapers through existing support agencies, including Urban Ministries, Welcome Baby and Healthy Families Durham, also is in critical need of toddler-size diapers.

This month, the Durham-based group launched the High Five Campaign. The goal is to collect size 5 diapers and raise awareness of the ongoing need for larger sizes.

“Larger diaper sizes are the most difficult for us to keep in stock,” said Michelle Old, Executive Director of the Diaper Bank of NC. “That means a lot of Durham and Orange County toddlers are going without the very basic need of a clean, dry diaper.”

Among the reasons for the shortage is the fact that, while babies grow quickly, toddlers can remain in size 5 diapers for more than a year, according to the group.

“Toddlers who have moved past diapers often regress in toilet training when families are faced with crises such as housing loss," Old said.

The Diaper Bank of North Carolina is asking community members to donate a package of Size 5 diapers at one of their drop-off locations: Bull City Craft at 2501 University Drive in Durham, Stay & Play Snack Cafe at 405A East Chapel Hill Street in Durham, and the Chapel Hill Children’s Clinic at 301 Kildaire Road #200 in Chapel Hill.

The Diaper Bank's website has more information about the party packages and High Five Campaign. The Diaper Bank opened in June 2013.
