The Diaper Bank of North Carolina will mark Diaper Need Awareness Week this month with a Stuff the Truck event at Northgate Mall.

BJ's Membership Club NC has donated 30,000 diapers to kick off the diaper drive. The Diaper Bank's organizers hope to collect another 10,000 additional diapers to distribute to needy families in Durham, Orange and Granville counties.

It's from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sept. 14, at Northgate Mall in Durham. The awareness week runs from Sept. 8 to Sept. 14.
The diaper bank formed earlier this year to serve parents who struggle to keep their young children in clean diapers.

According to the bank, it takes between 8 to 12 diapers a day to keep a baby clean and that can add up to a lot of money - more than $100 a month. WIC and food stamps do not cover diaper purchases and more than 25 percent of N.C. children live below the poverty line.

At the event, Durham Mayor Bill Bell will read an official Diaper Need Awareness Week proclamation.

If you're in Wake County, the Diaper Train also distributes diapers to low income families.
