FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County detectives were searching Thursday for a 56-year-old Fayetteville woman who has been missing for nearly a month.

Wilma Edwards reportedly left her home at 178 Linwood Road on Sept. 19, according to Debbie Tanna, a spokeswoman for the sheriff's office. Relatives reported her missing on Oct. 7.

Witnesses said that Edwards' behavior wasn't unusual, and they expected her to return home, Tanna said. She added that her family is concerned for her safety.

Edwards is described as a black woman with a medium to dark complexion, 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs approximately 165 pounds. She has gray hair and hazel eyes. She was last seen wearing a black and gold shirt, blue jeans, pink Croc shoes and a navy scarf worn as a turban.

Edwards is known to frequent the Murchison and the Shaw Road areas, Tanna said. She has some medical problems that require medications and might become combative without them.

Anyone with information about Edwards' whereabouts should call the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office at 910-323-1500.
