Detectives search for suspect following Fayetteville sexual assault

Fayetteville detectives are investigating a sexual assault that occurred around midnight on Monday near Cain Road and Pamalee Drive.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville detectives are investigating a sexual assault that occurred around midnight on Monday near Cain Road and Pamalee Drive.

The female victim was walking on the sidewalk along Cain Road when a man approached her from behind, pulled her to the ground and sexually assaulted her.

The suspect was described as tall with a thick build. He was wearing a black shirt and smelled of alcohol and a strong body odor, detectives said.

The victim provided the following details about the suspect's vehicle:

  • Dark green, possibly family, van
  • No back seats
  • Black pine tree car freshener hanging from the rear view mirror
  • Food and trash on the dashboard
  • Trash in the back of the van
  • Black comforter on the floor
  • No carpet in the back of the van
  • Metal back floor
