Destination: Women's Birth & Wellness Boutique

Posted April 4, 2013

I usually feature a playground or museum exhibit or other destination for families in this space on Friday. Today, we're doing something a little bit different.

For six years, the Women's Birth & Wellness Boutique in Chapel Hill has served new and expecting moms and their families with hard-to-find items - form nursing bras, now available in sizes 32C to 40M, to slings to cloth diapers and toys.

It's part of the Women's Birth & Wellness Center, which provides maternity care by certified nurse-midwives and gynecological and well-woman care for all ages. Women's Birth & Wellness Boutique Women's Birth & Wellness Boutique

The store is packed with everything from teething toys for babies to clothes and accessories for nursing moms. Many of the products are organic or made locally or in the United States. It has four main focuses: Wellness products, breastfeeding, cloth diapering and baby wearing, manager Rosalind Baglio tells me. The boutique rents hospital-grade breast pumps for nursing moms.

"We do extensive research on every product in here," Baglio said.

And for kids who come along on a shopping trip, there's a small play area with a wooden kitchen and other toys.

The store has free classes twice a month. There's a babywearing class on the first Saturday of each month and a cloth diapering class on the third Saturday of each month. The store is open seven days a week.

For more information, watch my video interview with Baglio and check out the boutique's website. This is a great resource.

Find the boutique at 930 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Chapel Hill.

Go Ask Mom features places for families each month. Check our posts on parks and playgrounds and Triangle family destinations for more ideas.
