Destination: Crabtree Valley Mall's play area

The malls will be packed this weekend with holiday shoppers, so I thought I'd feature something new for kids over at Crabtree Valley Mall.

About two months ago, the Raleigh mall brought in new pieces in the Center Court play area next to Sears. The pieces, made of the soft, squishy material that you find in play areas at other malls, include a tree, turtle, rabbit, butterfly and small tunnel.

This isn't a huge area with a lot of pieces, but it's definitely a welcome change and an opportunity to let kids take a break from walking in and out of stores. There also is a long stretch of benches, great for parents looking to relax a little too.

Posted rules say that kids can't be taller than 42 inches to play on the pieces. There are cubbies underneath the benches for shoes.

The play area still includes the coin-operated toys that have been there since I can remember. Those toys are for kids age 11 and under or no more than 100 pounds.

For a closer look, watch the quick video. Happy shopping! And thanks to the Go Ask Mom Facebook fan who let me know about the new upgraded play area.

Looking for places to take the kids? Check our database of park and playground reviews and {[a href="asset_gallery-1"}}posts on Triangle family destinations{{/a}}. Go Ask Mom features places to take kid every Friday.
