Sanford, N.C. — Lee County sheriff's deputies seized cocaine, marijuana and guns from a Sanford home late Thursday afternoon.
Sheriff Tracy Carter said deputies raided a house at 109 Robins Road and arrested Fidel Ortega Salgado, 27, whom they believe is an illegal immigrant.
Deputies seized 5 kilos of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $600,000, and 1 pound of marijuana, worth about $1,200.
Officers also found an AK-47 and two handguns in the residence, Carter said. The serial numbers had been ground off the guns.
Salgado resisted arrest and ran from the house, deputies said. He ran through briers and climbed over an 8-foot fence, injuring himself before deputies caught him.
Officials said Salgado was a fugitive alien, meaning he had been deported from the United States in the past. Immigration and Naturalization Services was expected to place a detainer against him, prohibiting his release even if he makes bond.
Salgado was being held under a $1 million bond.
