Deputies: Pager frightened off bank robber

Posted November 20, 2008

— Sheriff's deputies were searching for a man who tried to rob a Spring Lake bank Wednesday afternoon but was frightened off by a pager.

Investigators said the man brandished a semi-automatic handgun and demanded money from the tellers at Bank of America, 1109 N. Bragg Blvd. The sound of a pager, however, spooked him, and he fled the scene without taking any money.

The man was last seen going down Chapel Hill Road.

Detectives described the attempted robber as a young black man, standing 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 130 to 140 pounds. He wore a gray hooded sweatshirt and a black ski mask and carried a black backpack.

Anyone with information about the man was urged to call the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office at 910-323-1500.

You guys joke!!! But it is sad to think this is a sign of the times. We see crime spike around the holidays. But with the state of the economy, this may only get worse.

Most fireman carry two, to comply with insurance ratings requirement to have two means of notification. In Wake we carry
two, an ole analog voice one and, a somewhat newer, alpha numeric.
