Deputies: Caretaker attacked, stole from handicapped woman

Posted March 5, 2012

— The caretaker of a handicapped woman assaulted her and stole prescription drugs from her, according to the Chatham County Sheriff's Office.

Jonathan McKeown, 41, attacked the woman on Friday when she confronted him about the theft, Maj. Gary Blakenship said. He dragged her to a different room of her house, assaulted her and then fled, authorities said.

Deputies arrested McKeown a short time later, but while handcuffed, he escaped, Blakenship said. He was caught at the victim's house a few hours later.

McKeown, of 2038 S. Chatham Extension, was charged with felony kidnapping, breaking and entering, possession of a controlled substance, assault on a handicapped person, damage to personal property, injury to real property and resisting, delaying or obstructing justice.

He was placed in the Chatham County jail under a $100,000 secured bond. His first court appearance was set for April 16.

"He was placed in the Chatham County jail under a $100,000 secured bond."

I want to know why he wasn't placed UNDER the jail... What a waste of a human life!

Headline calls him a caretaker. Is that the new name for a person that steals and assults others

By this article it is hard to understand how he became a caretaker of this woman. Hard to understand how the broke free the second time. I am very glad he did not cause her further harm the second time.

Keystone Cops (losing the dude while handcuffed) and a joker's court ($100K bail). Poor woman is dead if she doesn't go into hiding. Way to go, judicial system.

I sure hope no one goes his bail. I know it'll cost money, but this guy needs to stay locked up.

Wait, he assaults her, they arrest him, he escapes and GOES BACK TO HER HOUSE? To do what, finish her off?

This guy needs some real special treatment.

He'll probably get out in a few months.
