NCDOT: Road construction on pause for holiday

print friendly

To cut down on Thanksgiving traffic, the N.C. Department of Transportation will be putting major road construction projects on hold this week.

Most projects on N.C. and U.S. routes and interstates will be suspended at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. Work will resume at 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 26.

Five projects will not be suspended, including N.C. Highway 12 from Bonner Bridge to Rodanthe, U.S. Business 17 in Jacksonville, U.S. Highway 74/76 in Wrightsville Beach, U.S. Highway 421 in Carolina Beach and Interstate 73 in Greensboro.

To avoid traffic delays, the N.C. DOT recommends that drivers leave early, stay alert, avoid distracted driving and do not drive drowsy. To avoid traffic congestion, use alternate routes and stay informed of travel information, which is available by calling 511.

I'm sure those DOT types won't take a holiday from wasting my tax dollars. Since they never do any work, I'm not sure what will be different.

Good idea-about time DOT makes some good decisions.

Great idea! Accomplishes 2 things-smoother travel and the workers get to spend the holiday with their families.
