Demolition of Fayetteville church to proceed

Posted March 25, 2011

— An abandoned Fayetteville church will be razed after a Superior Court judge ruled Thursday that he couldn't save the building.

City officials said Trinity Baptist Church on Hillsboro Street isn't structurally sound and is beyond repair, and they ordered its demotion in October.

Local developer Brian Watson, who bought the property last May, wants to fix up the property and sought an injunction against the city to spare the building from the wrecking ball.

Judge Greg Weeks ruled that Watson didn't appeal the city's condemnation order when it was first issued, so the court cannot hear his case.

i as well would hate to see a beautiful landmark disappear under ruling of a judge because mr. watson didnt appeal the case when it was first issued... Altho, yes, he could rebuild another one like it, it still wouldnt be built the same, as well as the characteristics, and the way it was built. I see that the demolition is scheduled for October.. They cant demo anything if its not there is it? ? ( HINT MR WATSON: MOVE THE CHURCH)

All Brian Watson has to do is build another one just like it.
