South St. Louis, MO — A St. Louis man struggling to get by less than two weeks after he was shot multiple times in an attempted carjacking.
The August 6 shooting was caught on surveillance video around 10 pm in the 3900 block of Humphrey Street in the Tower Grove South neighborhood.
"For somebody to shortcut in life and try to rob you, it's pretty ridiculous you know," said Rob, the driver now recovering after two young males approached his car.
"Next thing you know they're like if you're not going to give me your money, give me your car," said Rob. "I had to react after that."
Rob told News 4 he fought back, not allowing his attackers to get away easily.
"Once I kicked him, I got shot," said Rob.
"(I was shot) once through my groin, it fractured my pelvic bone and went out through my hip," said Rob.
Rob said he is doing better, but the shooting's left him limping.
"I'm walking with a cane right now, which I never expected to be 27 walking with a cane," said Rob.
Now temporarily out of work, Rob's loved ones started a Gofundme page to help cover medical expenses. He just hopes his situation teaches others to pay attention.
"Be more aware that it's possible that somebody could be watching you and your life could be ended in that moment," said Rob.
Rob told News 4 he remains optimistic about his situation, even though his attackers haven't been caught.
"They possibly may get away, but they'll always have to live with the fact that they did that," said Rob.
Rob said he still has plenty of therapy sessions left ahead and plans to return to work in a few weeks.
