FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The Fayetteville Police Department said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the deaths of two people whose decomposing bodies were found inside a Fayetteville home Thursday afternoon.

Officers responded to a home in the 5500 block of Aberdeen Place just before 2 p.m. to perform a well-being check after neighbors became concerned when they didn't see the people who lived in the home for several days.

Authorities said two dead bodies in a state of decomposition were found inside the home. The bodies will be sent to the Medical Examiner for further evaluation.

The identities of the people found inside the home were being withheld until next of kin were notified.

Neighbors said a mother and daughter lived in the home and the daughter was disabled. They said they would often see both women either sitting outside watching their dogs play, at the bus stop, or going back and forth to the grocery store.

Neighbors believe the women had been inside the home for at least two weeks.

One neighbor said she was disheartened to learn that nobody checked on the women until Thursday.

"I'll tell you, when I was growing up, people knew who their neighbors were; the next door neighbor, the people across the street. You knew the children, you knew what professions they had and nowadays people are so mistrusting that we don't check on our neighbors, we don't even know who they are," said Carol Nutting.

Nutting said she moved to the mobile home park on Aberdeen Place three months ago and didn't know the women herself.

Anybody with information is asked to call Fayetteville police at 910-489-3925 or Crime Stoppers at 910-483-8477.
