December coupon swaps

Posted December 2, 2014

Red Plum coupons insert

There are a number of blog members who swap coupons here in the Triangle area. This is the place to post your swap dates and locations each week! See below for details on how to host a swap and what to do if you are planning to attend a swap.

If there are any more December swaps scheduled, feel free to post them in the comments section below and I will add them to the main list. It helps if you can post your swap details more than a week before the swap date. Happy swapping!

December Swaps

WRAL coupon swap, cookie exchange and food drive

Details: Saturday, December 6 from 11 am - 1 pm at WRAL. This swap was open for registration in the last month to the first 25 people who registered. There are no more spaces available but if you are already registered, click the link above for the details on the coupons swap, cookie swap and food drive. Can't wait to see you there!  Anyone else still deciding what cookie you are going to make??

Cary/Southwest Raleigh swap

Date: Wednesday, December 10 (This swap is always the 2nd Wed of the month)

Time: 1 pm - 3 pm

Location: Carolina Pines Community Center, 2305 Lake Wheeler Rd, Raleigh NC, I-40 Exit 297 Lake Wheeler Rd (Farmer's Mkt).

Phone: 919-831-6435

Durham Coupon Swap

Date: Thursday, December 18, 2014 (3rd Thursday of each month)

Time: 7:00-8:45 p.m.

Location: Durham County Library - Southwest Regional (3605 Shannon Road, Durham, North Carolina 27707, 919-560-8590)

There is a large meeting room reserved for this group, so feel free to invite your friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, or anyone interested in exchanging coupons! If there is no notice posted in the library entrance area, inquire at the Information Desk when you arrive and they will let you know which meeting room we are in for the evening.

Please bring non-expired coupons you do not want or need in an envelope or baggie; it's best if they are already clipped.

You may also bring coupons that have already expired, again preferably already cut out of the inserts, in a separate bag or envelope so they may be donated to the military.

North Raleigh Coupon Swap

Date: December 20

Time: 3:00 pm

Location: Moes @ Triangle Towne Center

Thanks to Veronica for this reminder: Moe's is at the Triangle Town Center Mall, so you may want to allow extra time to try to find a parking space because of the holiday shopping.

(Starting in January 2015, this swap will meet on the 2nd Saturday of the month)

Barwell Swap: The Barwell Community Center swap in Garner is on hold at least until January. I will update if the swap starts up again.

Cary Mall Coupon Swap - this swap has been cancelled by Rebecca and will no longer continue.

If you are attending a coupon swap for the first time, here are some swap basics:
* Bring your coupons already cut out in an envelope if at all possible. It really helps to move the swap along if folks are not waiting for you to go through your coupons and cut them out at the table.
* You don't need to sort them by product type unless you really want to
* The group usually sits in a circle and passes around the envelopes to the person to the right. Take the coupons you want out and put the rest back in to pass on to the next person.
* Once you get your envelope back, you know you have been through all the coupons.
* In really large groups, couponers often sit in groups of 5 to 8 people to swap

If you are hosting a swap and wish to include the information here, please post the following details:
* Date of swap
* Time of swap
* Location of swap including address
* Host contact info to RSVP or ask questions. An e-mail address is fine - I don't suggest including your phone number on a public board. You may want to create a new free e-mail just for swapping from somewhere like Yahoo or Gmail.
I also recommend the local swap group, Triangle Area Coupon Swap with additional coupon swap information.

If your swap is less than a week away and you would like it to appear on this swap post, please send me an e-mail to saving@smartspendingresources.com with the information to make sure I see it in time to post your swap. Thanks!

My daughter and I made Red Velvet Crinkle Cookies. Recipe can be found here: http://simplygloria.com/red-velvet-crinkles-cookies/

ASCHERER re nuts: I am allergic to pecans, but all the others (almonds, walnuts, etc.) are ok. So, I definitely want to know what the actual nuts are :-) I hope everyone will have their ingredient list ready!

Yeeeesssss...I'm still deciding on which cookie/treat to make...thinking about going with something with peppermint & chocolate. I look forward to meeting everyone & putting faces with blog names!

I am bring congo bars. Half of them have nuts and the other half doesn't. Any time I am taking food with nuts somewhere, I almost always make a batch without nuts first and keep it separated from the ones with nuts. I don't know if anyone has nut allergies but I like to play it safe.

vlynn - too funny! It has chocolate and walnuts in it so it will be awesome - regardless of who makes it! lol

I'm bringing a saltine, chocolate walnut, butter thingy :-) I don't know what it's called, but it's something my neighbor always makes during the holidays. She is going to help me make it to bring. I don't know how much help I'll be, but it's the thought that counts! Or at least, that's what I've always been told :-)

Dr D - lemon cookies sounds wonderful! Can't wait to try them.

Raesmom - how am I supposed to decide which of your cookies to take home with so many good choices! lol

This is actually helpful for you all to post which ones you are bringing to we don't all bring the same thing. Anyone else already know which type of cookie/treat they are bringing?

  • Dr D Dec 2, 2014

I have a recipe for cranberry cookies that I only make at Christmas time because they're time-consuming, but a daughter was home over Thanksgiving weekend and really wanted me to try a Pinterest recipe she found for Lemon Crinkle Cookies. So I made them on Sunday, but it was only 4 dozen and quite a few of those disappeared. So I made another batch early this morning, and now they're vacuum sealed for freshness (and safekeeping) until Saturday. :-)

I'm almost positive that I will be making peanut butter cookies, sugar cookies and snicker doodles. The peanut butter cookie recipe I found calls for a WHOLE jar of peanut butter which I happen to have 3 on hand.
