RALEIGH, N.C. — Temperatures are expected to reach into the 70s for the start of the work week before cooling off Wednesday, WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.

November was one of the warmed and driest on record, marked by unusually mild temperatures and a lot of sunshine. December is starting out with a similar pattern.

"It's certainly not feeling like December." Gardner said. "Now, we're still dry and much warmer for a good chunk of the week."

Residents woke up Monday to a moist and muggy morning with cool temperatures in the 50s and patchy fog in some areas. The fog will give way to partly cloudy skies and afternoon sunshine.

A similar forecast is predicted for Tuesday.

Wednesday will see the week's only shot at rain, as temperatures dip into the low 60s. There's a slight chance of widely scattered showers and sprinkles that day.

On Thursday, the mercury will drop into the low 50s, and the overnight lows to around the freezing mark. But the sun will return, raising temperatures into the mid 60s again by next weekend.
