Children spot car fire from Chapel Hill playground; 9-year-old calls 911

Chapel Hill police are conducting a death investigation after responding to a report of a car fire on Wednesday.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Chapel Hill police are investigating a death after responding to a report of a car fire on Wednesday.

A 9-year-old boy called 911 to report a burning car on Dickens Court around 4 p.m.

The child told dispatchers that he was playing with others when they heard "a great big pop sound" and saw the car in the parking lot on fire.

"We are just outside our playground and its smoke is getting real cloudy, and now its turning brown," the child continued.

Chapel Hill Fire Department also responded to the incident.

Police did not release any additional information about the investigation.
