Durham police are solving significantly more homicide cases since the turn of the century, data from the FBI's Uniform Crime Report shows.

Between 1990 and 1999, police made arrests in only 113 of 287 murders, 39 percent.
From 2000 through 2008, that rate increased to 78 percent.
Police Chief Jose Lopez and District Attorney Tracey Cline cited cooperation from community members as key to the higher clearance rate.
